Steering Committee – Pre-determined Representatives
Purpose – The Steering Committee will tackle the issues of governance and whether to establish a 501(c)(3) corporation. It will ensure that the Homeless Plan is implemented via each year's Action Plan, propose and action on revisions to the Plan, as needed each year, oversee and approve recommendations of the subcommittees, coordinate opportunities for the LHOT group to act as ambassadors for the Plan and the entire LHOT mission and process, and determine and oversee fiscal agent(s). It will provide continuity as membership ebbs and flows.

Representatives include:

One each from: the City of Longmont, the OUR Center, the Faith community, Boulder County Mental Health Center, a housing provider, the Boulder Shelter, and the Business Community

Two each from: Consumers, a Non-Profit providing services (one city and one county agency), and each Subcommittee Convenor.

Meeting Times/Location – 2 nd Wednesday– 9:00 - 10:30 am – Longmont Housing Authority 1228 N. Main Street., Longmont, CO 80501 

Sub-Committees:

Fundraising Subcommittee
Purpose – to raise funding to implement the Homelessness Plan, funding for the Housing First Program, and for new program and case management efforts. This includes grant writing by committee members and/or finding, recommending and funding a professional grant writer. The committee would also look to establish a bank account for fund raising deposits and would research and recommend if a separate entity is needed for fiscal and/or grant management matters.

Public Policy Advocacy Subcommittee
Purpose – to advocate and raise awareness with public policy agencies around issues that impact the homeless and our work in assisting the homeless. Could coordinate advocacy activities with regional homeless plan communities, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH), and/or Metro Denver Homeless Initiative (MDHI) and/or bring issues we are facing to these groups for a general response or action. Work with consumers and grass roots efforts to bring focus on homeless issues in an appropriate fashion.

Community Education Subcommittee
Purpose – to educate the Longmont community concerning LHOT, The Homeless Plan, and the Housing First strategy; to create and implement a marketing strategy that educates the community about LHOT and the Plan; to educate the community so thoroughly that everyone knows these resources, how to find them, and how to use them. Organize presentations to the community. Coordinate the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week to provide an event(s) each November

Meeting Times/Location – 1 st Thursday of each month, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Center for People With Disabilities Office, 615 N. Main Street

Research and Analysis Subcommittee
Purpose – Conduct research needed to support Homeless Plan action items that are being addressed each year. Help set Homeless Plan goals and then work to ensure that goals are met and that the implementors are held accountable. Work on the Point-in-Time survey and provide stronger input to MDHI on this topic.

Meeting Times/Location – As needed

First and Emergency Response Subcommittee
Purpose – to ensure that the homeless will be able to get assistance if needed during off-hours and weekends when service providers are not open, including supporting an outreach program to check on homeless when temperature is below freezing. Other issues that are pressing and could be considered for action include health and transportation issues.
